Here are 3 out of 16 interesting and intriguing "what if" questions I've come up with to get some ideas out in the world.
Out of these 3 "what if" scenarios, I wrote 3-4 paragraphs for one of these scenarios - telling you about the world it would be taking place in and the main character.
Illustrations are also provided for each paragraph - drawings, photos, images found online, etc.
What if food could talk to us before we eat it?
What if graveyards had a communications system where the living could visit and talk to their dead loved ones with the assistance of AI?
What if a scientist finds out that black holes were actually jump-points to another alternate universe where we found Earth 1.0 and that we were actually Earth 2.0?
Phoenix - young tech innovator seeking to “revive” her father through AI assistance and communication systems.
The world around her - a technologically driven society, and a world without her father
After many years of attempting to perfect technology in the way that we currently communicate with one another, there was one particular person who looked to talk to the two people she’d lost. Phoenix loved getting her hands on new technology any chance she had as her family did not have the means to afford such things but her parents tried their best. Her father encouraged Phoenix to be open to curiosity as she learned the ins and outs of technology and her mother showed her to never give up in the face of adversity. She soon gained recognition when she further evolved communication technology with a nontraditional educational background.
As Phoenix continued to explore and push boundaries in the tech world, she also suffered a loss in her family. Her parents were devastated and kept mentioning how “if only they could speak to them one last time.” This sparked an idea in Phoenix to develop a communications system where a person’s consciousness could be downloaded onto a computer and reproduced through the assistance of AI. She quickly got to work and experimented with past and present technology and curated a system with many trials and errors. She felt like she was so close with each new invention until tragedy struck. Phoenix received news of her father falling ill and was rushed to the hospital.
Before Phoenix could even comprehend what was happening, she quickly had the idea to have her father hooked up to her new invention to ensure she wouldn’t lose him forever. She rushed to gather the equipment and began to download her father's consciousness, but was losing hope that the download would be successful as her father was growing weak minute by minute until he was completely gone. Logic and rationale were no longer present as Phoenix transferred the download into her communications system, in denial that her father was gone. She didn’t give up on resurrecting her father and assured her mother that they would see him again.
After her father’s funeral ceremony, Phoenix installed the communications system into her father’s plaque that projects a hologram of him. With self-realization setting in, Phoenix gives the command “Be open to curiosity,” as the system calibrates, the image of her father appears and shocks Phoenix as she falls to her knees. Phoenix begins to talk to her father asking him his opinions on the new trends. Her father replies as if he were never gone, utilizing newfound knowledge with the help of the artificial intelligence Phoenix incorporated into her communications system.
